Department of Road Traffic Planning and Engineering

The Department of Road Traffic Planning and Engineering (Dep. SVPT) was set up in 1976 within in the faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Wuppertal under the direction of Mister Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Stolz.

Since the 1st August 1999 Mister Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Gerlach has taken over the direction of the department.

For the Department of Road Traffic Planning and Engineering  has the integrated consideration priority, in the context of urban, regional and traffic planning as well as the correlation between human being, traffic and environment with the focus on road safety. The research projects at the Dep. RTPE concern the integrated consideration of all traffic systems, the linkage of sectoral planning as well as the correlation between settlement structure, social, financial and regional planning and traffic.

The field of action of the department of road traffic planning and engineering stretches across all kinds of questions concerning individual traffic within the area of teaching, research and project work. At this great importance is attached to the suitability for daily use of teaching and research. Following fields of action can be seen as working fields of the department:

  • Design and dimensioning of traffic infrastructure

  • Traffic model calculation
  • Traffic system / mobility management
  • Traffic engineering and traffic control
